Objective
This article provides overview information and step-by-step instructions for MC employees to setup DUO multi-factor authentication.
Overview
- Midland College uses multi-factor authentication as a necessary cybersecurity tool to help keep the college's network and electronic databases safe and secure from cyber attacks.
- MC employees will be prompted to setup multi-factor authentication using the DUO application.
- After initial setup, MC employees will be prompted to authenticate their login through the DUO application upon signing into any application that requires the My MC1 Login credential.
- Employees will be required to authenticate using a mobile device. If any employee is not able to setup the DUO Mobile app on their smartphone, they should complete this form to alert IT: [ Mobile App Opt-Out Form ]
- For any questions or concerns regarding DUO or multi-factor authentication, submit a DUO Mobile App Service Request or call the IT Help Desk, (432) 685-4788.

1. [On the computer] Locate the email from DUO Security and click on the link.

2. [On the computer] Click "Next".

3. [On the computer] Click "Next".

4. [On the computer] Click "Next".

5. [On the computer] Select the first option for "Duo Mobile". As previously mentioned, the preferred way to authenticate is by using the DUO mobile application.

If you prefer NOT to use the application and prefer to receive a text message or phone call to your cell phone to authenticate, select the "Phone Number" option at the bottom. NOTE: Midland College is charged for each phone call and text message made through the DUO system.

6. [On the computer] Continuing with the DUO mobile application setup, type in the phone number you will be using to authenticate. We recommend a cell phone.

7. [On the computer] Click "Add phone number".

8. [On the computer] Confirm the number was entered correctly then click "Yes, it's correct"

9. [On the computer] Click "Next".

10. [On the phone] Press "Continue".

11. [On the phone] Press "Use a QR code".

12. [On the phone] Press "OK".

13. [On the phone] Hover over the QR code displayed in the set-up window you have been working in on the computer (NOT the QR code in this example) until you see the green check mark. The set-up QR code is unique to you and will only work if the correct QR code is scanned.

14. [On the phone] Press "Next".

15. [On the phone] Press "Save".

16. [On the phone] Press "Practice Now".

17. [On the phone] Press "Deny".

18. [On the phone] Press "Next".

19. [On the phone] Press "Approve".

20. [On the phone] Press "Next".

21. [On the phone] Press "Allow notifications".

22. [On the phone] Press "Allow".

23. [On the phone] Press "Continue".

24. [On the phone] Press "OK".

25. Final screen on the phone.

26. [On the computer] Click "Skip for now".

27. Final screen on the computer.

**Within 24 hours** you will be prompted to authenticate upon login to any application that requires the My MC1 Login credential.

Authenticating After Setup Instructions
Below is a video walk-through of setting up your initial multi-factor authentication using the DUO application.

1. [On the computer] Select your email upon login.

2. [On the computer] Type in your username and password like you always have then click "Sign in".

3. When you see this screen, DUO is working and you will be asked to authenticate using your mobile device. You are almost done!

4. [On the phone] Press "Approve". IMPORTANT: If you get a notification and you are NOT attempting to sign in, please press "Deny" and contact IT immediately.

5. [On the phone] Press "OK".

6. Approval screen on the phone. Loading screen on the computer.

7. You're done!
